Utilise all that Studio You has to offer

One of the biggest strengths of Studio You is the range and quality of resources available. Beyond the videos themselves, I’d really recommend spending time exploring the supporting materials, particularly the discipline cards. I find these incredibly useful as they offer so much useful information and help me ensure all students are catered for and can derive value out of the lesson.

Listen to your students

Before introducing Studio You, I’ve found it really valuable to start by discussing the barriers students face when it comes to physical activity. Giving students the opportunity to share how they feel helps create context and makes the session feel more relevant and empowering.

When first trialling Studio You, I also initially chose disciplines that reflected activities students were already familiar with, such as dance‑based YouTube videos we had previously used, before gradually branching out into other disciplines. I think it’s important to be responsive to how different groups react and to give students a sense of ownership over their experience, while still keeping the lesson structured and purposeful.

Get involved and have fun!

Where appropriate, joining in alongside your students can make a real difference. As a male PE teacher, creating a safe and supportive environment for girls has sometimes felt challenging, but taking part in sessions has helped reduce self‑consciousness and put students more at ease. If students can see you engaging with the session and enjoying it, they’re often more willing to do the same themselves.
